The site being in Sundernagar has a microclimate of its own due to the leeward side of the Bina forest mountain facing the city. Hence the winters are chill and the summers are comfortable with a precipitation of 1800 mm in monsoon. hence trapping the heat as well as obstructing the northern winds in winter and shading upto the sun angle of 81degrees in summer and cross ventilation in summer became the start to designing.
The campus is designed climate responsive based on the climate studies of the location. Some climate responses considerations are orientation of the building as per the opyimum orientattion angle, provision of glazing at winter sun angle, overhangs to obstruct the summer sun angle, provision of sedum insulation roof on roof and northern walls, provision of sun spaces on the south, reuse of building waste water for irrigation, water trenchs for ground water recharge, incorporation of rain water harvesting tanks.
As per the sefaira simulation software over sketchup, the designed building only consumes 34kw*hr/m^2/year and is mostly lit during the day.
