Chellanam Grama panchayat is a coastal village in the southwestern part of Ernakulam District.The western part of the panchayat is located in the Arabian sea. The panchayat has 21 wards. There are 19 wards in coastal region. There are around 10,000 homes in coastal area.This region is always extremely affected by the rough sea during the months of june and july(monsoon).There is a possibility of rough sea throughtout the year.

The Roaring waves that climb to the coastal ara scarcely destroy homes and livlihood.Surfacing close to the coast of the sea with a torment of water makes damaging homes in coastal areas and making people’s lives miserable.Every year there is a lot of destruction by sea eruptions is affecting in this area.The majority of the people in this area are fishermen while some work in town or have their own boat manufacturing unit.Sufficient land is not available in this village for rehabilitation of affected people.Even the villagers are not ready to relocate their homes as they are dependent on sea.

As the panchayat has sufferd great loss in the “Ockhi Cyclone” they arent getting sufficent consideration. So the villagers are facing substandard problems which need to addressed
